Okay, ladies, let’s talk about becoming an influencer! Influencing can be a great way to express yourself and your passions, build a community and become a business. But, the word ‘influencer’ has never really sat right with me.
After starting my business and becoming an influencer, I realized I shied away from using that word to describe myself and often found myself cringing when others used it to speak of me. This led to me want to share my feelings with you and help those gals out there working towards building their own community and influencing to do so for the right reasons.
Here’s the beauty of being an influencer: you can make it your own! I describe all of the different types of influencers and reiterate how personal being an influencer is. You have the power to make it what you want and find what works best for YOU.
I share my challenges with comparison and offer tips to overcome comparison to find success as an influencer. Also, explain why you shouldn’t focus on the number of followers you have, but rather, the quality of the following you have.
You have a purpose through which you can influence others! Find that purpose, focus on that purpose, and let it fuel your success.
Hello, it’s Tuesday. I just wanted to take a moment here. Um, I am still at the beginning journey of this podcast, but I had started with the intentions of putting out my episodes on Monday and Thursday. And what I have quickly realized is I’m not a Monday person and Mondays are just too crazy right now for me. So I’m making a shift for those of you who are paying attention, and you will now see my episodes drop on Tuesday and Thursday. So be on the lookout for two episodes a week, Tuesday, Thursday. I hope that works for all of you. I’m always looking for your input because I am here to serve you and to give you the knowledge that I have when it comes to bookkeeping and your financials, as well as the influencing and small business world. This one is for all of you aspiring influencers out there. I am going to give you some more insights into how I feel about influencing and the different types there are and what you can do with that. Um, maybe help you decide what you want to do if you even want to decide that now, uh, I think it’s important to know that I think it’s okay to just jump in and see where it goes as well. So, um, it’s probably not a secret. Maybe it is because you’re still getting to know me, but I do not like the word influencer. It feels weird. It doesn’t resonate. And I get very embarrassed any time someone I know here, that’s not in the influencer space, talks to me about it. I clam up and kind of brush it away. I try to change topics very quickly because it’s weird.
It is to me. And that’s okay. Some of you picked up feel the same way, but for me, the word influencer just has this feeling of I’m better than you, or I know more than you. And I know that’s not what this world is about. Not the influencer space is not about that. In most cases, I’m sure there are some out there who feel that way, but for some reason, I just can’t get over it. I know that I have been put on this earth to make an impact and to inspire someone. But for some reason, when you throw in the word influencer, it really gets me going. So I think it’s important to remember if you are like me know that the word influencer is going to be used, and that is how people are going to see you, at least as a title.
But really what I try to tell myself is that’s not important. Impact inspiration. That’s important. I don’t want anyone to be just like me, right? That’s not the goal. The goal is to inspire someone else to do something similar. Or for me, it’s always been important to inspire other moms, to do something for themselves to not lose sight of themselves. So anytime I get reminded that I’m an quote unquote influencer, I try to just remind myself. That’s not what my main purpose is. It really is just to inspire, to make someone do something for themselves. Anyways, I digress, like I said, it is what it is. This is an influencer world. That is what you are called, but don’t let that bring you down. Like it does me. I am a work in progress guys. So now that you determined that you want to enter this influencing world, I remember that it was so overwhelming, really not knowing what it was.
And honestly, that’s not even why I started my Instagram. I think I’ve told you before. It was an escape for me. It was just something fun to do. But as you get in there, you kind of get tossed around and then you start learning. And so then questions come. So I’m kind of just going to give you a brief overview of the different types of influencers. And then I want you to understand that you can be whatever you want to be, just because you’re an influencer. Doesn’t mean you need to be like every other influencer. That’s the point to be different. I love this as a business model, because it’s up to you. It’s up to you. What you want this to be. It’s up to you to decide who you want to work with. It’s up to you to decide how many people you want to work with.
I think that is why this space is beautiful because it’s your thing. It’s, it’s your space. You are the boss. And no one can tell you if it’s right or wrong now saying that I know because I’ve been there and I still catch myself. There are some days you will be sidetracked because you will start comparing and you will start assuming that because that’s working for somebody else that it’s, it needs to be done by you the same way, but that’s not true. You’ve got to do what you want to do to be successful in this space. So there are different, uh, types of influencers. And I wanted to bring this up because, and we’re going to go into more detail about this on another podcast. But follower count is one of the things that will probably drive you crazy as you enter the influencing world.
And it will probably be the number one thing that is constantly on your mind. I’m going to tell you to stop that. Stop it, stop it because I’ve done it. I get to be here to tell you the things I’ve done so you can learn from my mistakes. So there are so many different types of influencers. You don’t have to have a million followers to be considered an influencer. So there’s nano. And let me start by this again, I’m going to tell you some of the types of influencers, but know that there’s kind of some gray areas, even as I was researching to make sure I knew my facts. Some people classify these types differently than others, but this is general. This is merely to show you that you can be successful with a small following and a large following. You can be unsuccessful with a small following and a large following.
So nano is less than 10,000 followers. You will probably see there are quite a few nano influencers. And guess what? There are some nano influencers who have made this their full time job and are very successful at it when you are entering. And you’re going from hundreds to a thousand to a couple thousand, don’t let that discourage you. You could actually be super successful with just a couple of thousand followers. The next step up would be micro. Micro influencer would be 10 to 50,000. This is the spot where I am technically at. I have been stuck here for a long while. I don’t foresee myself going out of this micro influencer space and I am 100% okay with that. This I believe will be my sweet spot. And this is where I want to stay. The next would be macro. Actually, let’s go back.
I think there’s a mid tier now, apparently a 50 to two 50. This was new to me, but wanted to throw it out there because I did see that in my research. Um, but macro is the next one that you’re going to hear, um, a lot about. And that’s 250,000 all the way up to a million. Then once you get to 1 million you’re mega. So what I want to remind you of is when you go and see those follower accounts, don’t think that that person is successful because they’re at two 50 and you’re at 1000, there are so many underlying facts to that follower count. Don’t let that discourage you. Don’t let that be your motivation. Now, when I wanted to tell you is that once you kind of have this picture and this understanding of the different types, you don’t necessarily need to determine where you want to be.
I think it’s important to just take it day by day, do your thing, enjoy it, share your message, share your passions and just let it all happen as it’s supposed to. What I want to make sure I get across to you today is that you can be an influencer or inspiration to someone out there, and it only needs to be. You only need to have one follower to do that. That is where it is important. You only need to have one person here, you to make an impact. We are not all meant to share our message or our strengths with millions of people. Some of us are just supposed to share with one person and make a difference in that one person’s life. So I think it’s important as you enter this influencing space to have your focus on finding that one person that was meant to hear your message.
Don’t worry about thousands. I truly think you can make a bigger impact by talking directly to one person versus 1000 people really dig deep and dive deep with that one person. That’s where you’re going to make your impact. That’s where I think you can be a successful influencer. What I also want you to remember, I talked about it earlier. Influencing can be what you want it to be. Please don’t get caught in the trap of comparison. You will not be successful that way. I, to catch myself getting caught in that trap of comparison. And then I look back at my week and realize I didn’t progress. I didn’t move forward or look back at my year. I’ve had long periods where I look to other people who I think are, are successful, and I try to mimic that. But that is not, that is not being a good influencer.
I am unique. I am me. There is only one of me and I need to show that you need to show that there was only one of you. It is important to figure out what you want to do in your influencer space and to stick true to that. I intended for this podcast to be one that would allow you to hear and know that being an influencer is what you want it to be. I got a little off on the followers, but I just want to reiterate that there are many different types of influencers and not just one of them is right. They’re all good. They all serve a purpose. So when you are in this influencer space, make sure you remember that. Remember that the follower count doesn’t matter. Remember that your message is going to be different than someone else. Remember that your passions are different than everyone else allow yourself as an influencer to do what you love to share what you want to share and be there.
Even if it’s for only one person, there are all types of influencers and they’re all amazing. And they all have a purpose here in this world. That’s all for today. I will see you all, or I’ll be here again later this week.
